    THE Weather Forecaster Guide

At the present time and the foreseeable near future there is no standalone N3 fix for fta receivers. The only way to get TV on ANY FTA stb is to utilize something called IKS. What this does is hook your FTA unit up to the internet by using what is refered to as a hub, dongle, or in this case...the Weather Forcaster.

The V.VS Weather Forecaster is available at site sponsors at the top of the page. Simply click on one of the banners. Pricing is available there.

    What do you need?

    - Weather Forcaster
    - Router
    - Modem
    - Internet Capability

Note: Any wireless bridge will also work for the purpose of the weather forecaster as very little data is transmitted.

Would it be better to just run a long Cat5 or do the Bridge thing?

The Weather Forecaster will be plug n play, however, setting up wireless bridges is NOT!

I would think it would be much better to set any device up with WIRE first, once working, add your bridges. You do not have to run wires all over the place, but to run One to test and get setup.

What Viewsat receivers will it work on?

It WILL work with the Ultra, Ultra Lite, MaxHD, and 9000HD.

It will NOT work on the Platinum series, Xtreme, Pro PVR or VS7000PVR units.

Files will NOT come out all at once. They will trickle in. The first 2, will be the Ultra and Ultra Lite. Others will follow during the next couple weeks. I will NOT give definate timelines as we know what happens to those.

    Weather Forecaster Installation Instructions

This setup is almost as easy as the old standalone days... It is definitely the easiest of any other I have seen....this is assuming your receiver is already hooked up to tv and satellite dish and ready to go.

Personally, I would do a factory default, reset settings, and do a fresh scan of the sats.

Make sure your WF is hooked to your receiver via serial cable, make sure your network cable is hooked to your internet connection, via whatever your source, direct, router, etc... and also make sure power cable to WF is plugged in, then...

    1. Load Factory firmware
Upgrade main S/W to the receiver through USB.
-. Ultra lite : PFTAUSW-100322UL (Ultra lite) or
    -. Ultra : PFTAUSW-100322U (Ultra)

    2. Go to installation => Serial Setup => Network Setup => Network setting => put your IP
-. If you use DHCP, just put the DHCP in Network setting. (Most will use DHCP)

    3. Go to installation => Serial Setup => Network Setup => Network S/W upgrade => Start Upgrade.
-. Then the S/W for WF will be upgrade automatically.

Once the above is done, your stb flashed, used the serial setup to set networking settings, updated the WF via Network s/w upgrade... you are ready to test the weather feature.

    To do this:

    1. Go to installation => Serial Setup => Regional Weather
    2. Choose Region => Pick your location or close by location
    3. Move down to Get Regional Weather => Press Ok
    4. Depending on your internet connection it may take up to 2 minutes to download Regional Weather Information.

Note: Weather Forcast feature is only available on factory firmware (100318 or 100322)

    To get channels:

    4. Load Latest firmware
Upgrade main S/W to the receiver through USB.
-. Ultra lite : PFTAUSW-100320UL (Ultra lite) or
    -. Ultra : PFTAUSW-100320U (Ultra)

    5. Go to installation => Serial Setup => Network Setup => Network S/W upgrade => Start Upgrade.
-. Then the S/W for WF will be upgrade automatically.
