    FTA Options - Panama

Hello, I am located in Panama (Central America), have a 30" antena (aprox - not sure exact size) that is currently pointing to 61W and hooked to VS Ultra Lite boxes. Can not use this setting under current conditions (no bin out, no dongle either yet) and wonder which birds do you guys suggest I try to catch (keep in mind my location)... anything will do as long as the VS Ultra and this dish are connected... and it is FTA (will not require any bin at all)... anything will help as long as I get something to watch (prefer if channels are in english) Thanks a million in advance!

your best bet is to go to lyngsat.com and see whats available from where you are and what programing is on those sats.

North American satellites have a very steep drop in EIRP level near southern Mexico and the northern part of Central America. In Panama, you're pretty much screwed as far as receiving North American FTA, as you are outside of the footprint area. You might want to look to South American satellites.

Hello, I am looking at a bird 40.5 W that seems a bit interesting but have no idea if my VS Ultra Lite can open channels with DVB encryption... any help highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

that sat is mainly c band and requires a minimum 6 foot dish and c band lnb
it only shows two transponders that are ku linear 11783 and 11291 which are spotbeamed over Brazil and Argentina and parts of Chile

and yes the Ultra lite can receeve DVB programming

when looking at a site like lyngsat or others look at the frequence range
anything staring around 3490 to 5000 is C band
anything from around 10000 plus to around 12000 is linear ku
anything above 12000 is what some call high range ku (used mostly by the main providers in North AMERICA)
using a 30 plus inch dish and linear lnb there are many many sats that you can pick up in your area
make sure to look at the foot print of the sat and the encrpytions
